A dramatic rescue operation at a construction site during Storm Harry has drawn national attention after Dr. Jonathan Joslin, a leading consultant at the Emergency Department of Mater Dei Hospital, shared a heartfelt message on social media emphasising the crucial role of teamwork in saving lives.

The video captures emergency responders working in hazardous conditions as strong winds and heavy rain battered the Maltese islands over the past few days, highlighting the very real dangers faced by frontline workers during the storm.

During a special Cabinet meeting attended by heads of multiple directorates, Prime Minister Robert Abela confirmed that no deaths or fatalities occurred as a result of Storm Harry. He described this outcome as a testament to both public cooperation and the unwavering dedication of essential personnel.

The Prime Minister thanked the public for adhering to government-issued safety guidelines and commended the public service workers who remained on duty throughout the storm, ensuring the safety of the islands. He also announced that the Government will grant a special allowance to members of the disciplinary forces who worked during the extreme weather.

“The dedication of our workers deserves recognition,” Prime Minister Abela stated, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to minimising danger and damage. He acknowledged everyone involved, from those risking their lives during the storm to the workers who immediately began clearing streets once conditions improved. Further details regarding the allowance and other measures will be released in the coming days.

Authorities had previously ordered construction sites to suspend outdoor work and secure loose materials ahead of the storm. Despite the severe weather, enforcement and workplace safety inspections continued, underscoring that preparation and compliance were key factors in preventing any fatalities.
