Malta has recorded its lowest level of crime ever, Security Minister Byron Camilleri said in Parliament.
Camileri highlighted that last yearβs rate of recorded theft was the lowest on record, noting that this is especially significant given the increases in economic activity and tourism.
Camilleri explained that comparing last yearβs figures with those from 2012 shows that the rate of theft in the country has been reduced by half over that period.
Despite the positive trend, he stressed that this achievement does not mean efforts can be relaxed. Camilleri said that ongoing work must continue, as new realities have emerged that require clear strategies to address them.
