Franco Debono raised concerns about how dust, sand, and fine particles from the Sahara Desert affect the health of people in Malta.
Debono posted a statement on Facebook saying how despite the fact that โglorious weatherโ is reported in the media, the Maltese islands experience desert-like climate and effects that directly impact respiratory illnesses.
โI ask- what is being done from a health perspective to prepare for this natural phenomenon of such great danger? Can anything be done, or can nothing be done? Is there enough awareness, and has it been studied seriously?,โ wrote Debono.
He also mentioned that car exhaust and construction dust as real issues in the local scenario before asking what is being done from a health perspective to prepare for the dust pollution. He also asks if anything can be done in this regard, if there is enough awareness and whether this case has been seriously studied.
Debono went on to invite doctorsโ expert opinion on the matter.
