Carnival season 2026 officially kicked off yesterday with the Nadur organised carnival, as hundreds gathered in Nadur to celebrate the start of one of the island’s most colourful times of year.

Hosted by Josline Camilleri and Marvic Camilleri, the lively event transformed Nadur Square into a hub of music, dance and spectacle. Families, locals and carnival enthusiasts packed the square to watch a full programme of performances and traditional carnival elements.

Dance groups took to the stage in vibrant costumes, delivering high-energy routines that set the tone for the week of celebrations ahead. Elaborate floats rolled through the square, while carnival masks and detailed costumes added to the festive atmosphere that Nadur is known for.

The event also featured the traditional kukkanja, a crowd favourite that brought both laughter and competition, as participants attempted to climb the slippery pole in front of cheering spectators.

With its mix of tradition, creativity and community spirit, the Nadur carnival once again proved why it remains a key date on the carnival calendar, and a strong opening to Carnival 2026 across Malta and Gozo.
