Karl Cini has been announced as the host of the first episode of The AI Lounge, a new podcast produced by the University of Malta’s Department of Artificial Intelligence within the Faculty of ICT.

Cini, who recently completed a Master’s degree in Data Science, is currently employed by the university as a part-time Research Support Officer. He shared the news on LinkedIn, confirming he will be presenting the debut episode.

His role as host has drawn attention given that Cini is currently facing criminal charges, including money laundering and corruption, in connection with the Panama Papers case. He has pleaded not guilty.

Cini previously acted as an intermediary in the opening of Panama companies for former minister Konrad Mizzi and former chief of staff Keith Schembri.

While the topic of the podcast centres on artificial intelligence, the choice of host has sparked debate online due to the ongoing court proceedings.
