A 21-year-old man who injured two Transport Malta officials in a reckless late-night crash is also facing separate criminal charges over the death of a motorcyclist on Christmas Eve.

Stoyan Gafà pleaded guilty in court to driving in a reckless and dangerous manner, driving without insurance, driving under the influence, injuring the officials, damaging multiple vehicles and breaching two sets of bail conditions.

The crash happened at around midnight at the Santa Lucija tunnel, where the officials were supervising traffic works. One officer suffered grievous injuries, while the other sustained slight injuries.

When officers arrived on site, they immediately recognised Gafà. He had already been arraigned last month in connection with the fatal Christmas Eve collision that killed Angie Marlene Mesa Gonzalez. He is also facing charges over another reckless driving incident last December that left a person grievously injured.

The case has been adjourned to 19th February for judgement.
