Around 140 elderly residents gathered at San Vinċenz de Paul for the second edition of ‘Ikla bi Mħabba’, an initiative offering special moments for residents of the home as well as elderly people from other residences.
The initiative, led by the Prime Minister’s wife Lydia Abela, was once again organised on the occasion of Valentine’s Day, with the aim of spreading a message of love and respect among the elderly. The event also conveyed an important message of solidarity, particularly in moments when loneliness can be felt most.
As in the first edition, Abela was joined by four leading participants from MasterChef Malta: Andrew Debattista, Leigh Spiteri Chircop, Francesco Sultana and Antoine Micallef. Together with the management and staff at San Vinċenz de Paul, they prepared a special meal designed specifically for the elderly guests.
The warm atmosphere was complemented by entertainment from singers Glen Vella, Tiziana Calleja, Sarah Bonnici and Jasmine Abela.
Dr Abela emphasised the importance of continuing to show appreciation towards the elderly, highlighting intergenerational solidarity as a key value that should be nurtured within society.
She added that through this initiative, beautiful moments are being created for some of the most vulnerable members of the community, while sending a strong message that we need to take care of one another.
Many of the elderly attendees expressed their joy and appreciation for the initiative, describing it as a lovely opportunity to come together.
