Speaking during a Mother’s Day event held in Mġarr, Alex Borg announced a family-focused proposal aimed at significantly extending maternity leave in Malta.
Addressing the event themed “The Role Of Mothers In Society”, the Nationalist politician revealed plans to increase maternity leave from the current 18 weeks to six full months on full pay.
“Nagħmlu l-qabża minn leave tal-maternità ta’ 18-il ġimgħa kif inhu llum għal sitt xhur b’paga sħiħa,” the party wrote.
The proposal aims to give mothers more time with their newborn children during the crucial first months of life, while ensuring they continue receiving full financial support throughout the extended leave period.
“Irridu li l-omm ikollha aktar ħin mat-tarbija tagħha fl-ewwel xhur tal-ħajja, bi dritt,” they added.
The proposal forms part of a wider set of family-oriented measures expected to feature in the Nationalist Party’s electoral campaign ahead of the general election.
