A shocking case of suspected animal abuse has been reported in Għajnsielem after a pet rabbit was found with all four legs snapped.

According to Malta Ranger Unit, their team was alerted to the incident after the rabbit was discovered in a remote area, unable to move.

Despite appearing otherwise healthy, the rabbit had suffered severe injuries, with all four legs seemingly deliberately broken at the joints and left to die.

Rangers immediately contacted Animal Welfare officers, who assisted in transporting the rabbit to a vet. Due to the extent of its injuries, it is likely the animal will need to be humanely euthanised.

The case has also been reported to the police due to its unusual and disturbing nature.

The Malta Ranger Unit is urging the public to remain vigilant while out in the countryside and to report any injured animals.

Anyone who comes across wildlife in need of help is encouraged to seek assistance immediately.
