The Armed Forces of Malta carried out an emergency medical evacuation earlier today after a crew member aboard a fishing vessel suffered decompression sickness.

According to an official AFM statement, Rescue Coordination Centre Malta received an urgent request for assistance during the afternoon.

An AFM rescue vessel was immediately dispatched to evacuate the individual and transport him safely back to shore for medical treatment.

Upon arrival in Malta, the patient was handed over to medical personnel at Mater Dei Hospital for further urgent care.
