Whether you’re a secondary school student writing your first lines of Python or a professional developer building apps for a living, CodeSprintMT 2026 wants you.
Returning for its eighth edition, CodeSprintMT has grown from a small student competition launched in 2018 into Malta’s largest coding community, bringing together aspiring programmers, university students and industry professionals for a series of coding challenges designed to test skills under pressure.
Organised by the Directorate for STEM and VET Programmes within the Ministry for Education & Sport, in collaboration with ICE Campus, the competition will run between 4th and 18th July.
More Than Just A Competition
While there are prizes to be won, CodeSprintMT has become known for something bigger: its community.
Participants work through real coding challenges, collaborate with like-minded people and gain exposure to industry professionals, creating an environment where learning and networking go hand in hand.
“CodeSprintMT started as a single event for secondary school students. Today, it’s a platform for anyone passionate about coding,” said founder Josmar Borg.
“It’s where learning becomes social, talent becomes visible and potential becomes opportunity.”
Three Competitions, One Coding Community
Secondary Competition (Ages 13-16)
Powered by the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA), this category features Python-based challenges aligned with the national O-Level Computing syllabus.
Participants can compete for a €500 cash prize, sponsored training opportunities and a place in the CodeSprintMT Hall of Fame, while also having the opportunity to earn an MQF Level 3 accreditation.
Post-Secondary Competition (Ages 16-19)
Also powered by MDIA, this category is open to students studying computing at intermediate or advanced level.
Competitors can choose between Python and Java challenges while competing for prizes, recognition and valuable experience.
Open Competition (18+)
Powered by MeDirect Bank Malta, the Open category is aimed at adults, professionals and experienced developers.
Participants will have eight hours to tackle a real-world brief using any programming language or technology stack of their choice.
The winning team will take home €3,000, while second and third place will receive €1,500 and €500 respectively.
Industry leaders will also be present throughout the competition, offering participants a chance to showcase their talent to potential employers.

This year’s edition is supported by a strong lineup of organisations including MDIA, MeDirect Bank Malta, PwC Malta, Melita, Xjenza Malta, Knights College, Bolt, Computime, MITA and several other partners.
Their involvement highlights the growing importance of digital skills and technology talent within Malta’s economy.
Parents Are Invited Too
For parents wondering how to support a child interested in technology, CodeSprintMT will also host a free information session covering career opportunities within Malta’s IT industry, educational pathways and what employers are looking for in future talent.

Many competitors felt exactly the same before taking part.
“The biggest thing that prevents people from entering is fear of losing,” said Jefferson, who placed third in the Open category last year.
“But fear of missing out is worse. You have nothing to lose. Give it a try.”
