Friends of the Earth Malta (FoEM) will host ‘Save Our Shores’, a photojournalistic exhibition at Triton Square this June focusing on the environmental and social impacts of Malta’s cruise liner, marina and shipping industries.

Featuring photography by Darrin Zammit Lupi, the exhibition presents research, testimonies and visual documentation gathered during a year-long project examining how coastal communities are being affected by maritime tourism and coastal development.

According to FoEM, the project involved community assemblies and collaborations with journalists to document concerns related to public access to coastal areas, environmental impacts and the increasing commercialisation of public spaces.

The NGO says the exhibition explores how tourism-driven development and economic activity along the coast are affecting Malta’s shoreline, marine ecosystems and coastal communities.

Through photographs, community testimonies and research findings, the exhibition aims to contribute to public discussion on coastal management and development.

The exhibition will also feature the ‘Save Our Shores’ petition, which calls for greater protection of Malta’s coastline and advocates for what organisers describe as a more sustainable and people-centred approach to coastal planning.

‘Save Our Shores’ will be held at Triton Square in Valletta, launching tonight with a press conference at 6.30pm and remaining open to the public until 22nd June.
