Ta’ Ġieżu Church has doubled down on its claims that strip performances continue outside its doors, rejecting Home Affairs Minister Glenn Bedingfield’s insistence that the videos circulating online are more than a year old.

In a Facebook statement, the Franciscan community said the shows “have never stopped”, adding that residents, not the church, regularly send them videos documenting the incidents.

“There are videos from 2024, 2025 and this year,” the church said, adding that one performance took place in May, while trusted residents recently informed them of another.

The church also insisted that longstanding issues with noise and accessibility remain unresolved, noting that police were called to intervene as recently as last Saturday.

It said the purpose of sharing the footage was to show that the street “cannot cope with another establishment” near the church and warned that the current situation already threatens what Ta’ Ġieżu represents.

The Franciscans also appealed for the issue not to become political, insisting they have “never been partisan” and concluding with a message to sceptics: “If you don’t believe us, come and ask the residents.”
