Vouchers equivalent to 13,000 trees have been issued this week under a national planting scheme aimed at increasing green spaces across Malta and Gozo.
The initiative, led by Project Green, supports landowners in planting both productive and non-productive trees free of charge.
The first group of applicants who completed the verification process have started receiving their vouchers, with collections taking place during the βFamily in the Parkβ event at Taβ Qali.
Officials and suppliers were on site to guide beneficiaries on planting, care and maintenance.
Environment Minister Miriam Dalli said the scheme saw stronger demand than expected, following plans to distribute over 100,000 trees nationwide.
Launched in October 2025, the initiative received nearly 2,000 expressions of interest and is now entering a new phase, with trees set to be planted across different areas.
