A former police constable has been handed a suspended jail sentence and fined €4,500 after admitting to revenge porn charges, as reported by Times of Malta.

Clyde Bajada, 27, pleaded guilty to sharing intimate photos of a woman without her consent and misusing electronic equipment. The case was considered particularly serious because Bajada was serving as a police officer at the time of the offence and was therefore duty-bound to prevent such crimes.

In court, it emerged that the woman and her husband reported Bajada at the Qawra Police Station on 19th September 2024 after discovering that intimate images had been shared with third parties. The woman told police she had bought a bicycle for her son from Bajada, after which the two went on a date and later entered a sexual relationship. Bajada subsequently asked her for nude photos, which she sent.

The situation came to light when the woman’s husband discovered the relationship and learned that the images had been circulated. He confronted Bajada, who admitted he had shared the photos with three other individuals, whom he identified to police.

Bajada was arraigned before the Court of Magistrates (Gozo) after initially pleading not guilty. He later changed his plea in January 2026.

In its considerations, the court noted that Bajada had no previous convictions but stressed that his role as a police officer aggravated the offence. The magistrate said the case had serious implications, including the potential to undermine public trust in the police force.

Bajada was sentenced to one year in prison, suspended for two years, fined €4,500, and ordered to pay €1,161.60 in court costs. A three-year restraining order was also issued in favour of the victim.

The case was presided over by Jean Paul Grech, with police inspectors Mario Xiberras and Jessica Bezzina prosecuting.
