Maltese artist Michelle Cassar Wirth Cavarra recently held her first solo exhibition in support of Kate Ferriggi- a young girl living with a rare illness.

The exhibition was held on 14th December at the Civil Service Sports Club in Valletta, showcasing a collection of works that reflect the artist’s personal and artistic journey.

The exhibition is on sale and the proceeds collected until 22nd January would go to Kate’s care.

“My artistic journey began during a low point in my life, when my paintings were expressions of my emotions, often using darker colours,” she explains. “Over the past year, I have begun to see a more positive side of life, and my recent paintings reflect these new emotions through brighter colours and uplifting themes,” said the artist.

Her work is inspired by the simple pleasures of everyday life and the natural world. She draws on the beauty of small objects like butterflies, a woman’s hat, or anything that captures her eye, translating these inspirations onto canvas using a diverse range of materials and techniques, including mixed media and collage.

Her impulsive and expressive style reflects a lifetime surrounded by art, having grown up painting and creating ceramics alongside her mother and grandparents, both of whom were artists.

Coming from a lineage of artists and poets, she acknowledges that creativity runs in her genes. “Painting gives me a sense of freedom that comes from within, expressed through abstract strokes. It has given me a sense of belonging and allowed me to be myself,” she says.

The exhibition not only celebrates her artistic growth but also underscores her commitment to using her talent to help others in need. Through her work, she hopes to share both her vision and her generosity, turning her artistic gift into a force for positive impact.
