The London Indoor Games, held annually at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, once again proved a highly successful event for Pembroke Athleta Athletics & Triathlon Club.
Pembroke Athleta was strongly represented at this year’s edition, with 35 club members competing over two weekends. The first weekend featured Senior and Under-20 competitions, while the second weekend hosted Under-13, Under-15, and Under-17 events. Across both weekends, the club’s athletes achieved an impressive five Category National Records.
The record-breaking performances began on 17th January, when Jorrin Busuttil ran an outstanding 200-metre indoor race, setting new Under-20 and Under-23 National Records with a time of 22.40 seconds, finishing 8th overall among 50 competitors.
Further success followed the next weekend, also at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, when Timothy Rizzo Naudi raised the Under-16 Indoor High Jump National Record. Competing at the Junior Games, he cleared 1.61 metres, surpassing the previous record set last year by teammate Carl Grech at the same competition.
In middle-distance events, Aurora Desira set a new Category Best in the Girls’ Under-14 Indoor 800 metres, finishing second in her heat and overall with a time of 2:30.40. Karina Mia Peresso also improved the Category Best Time in the Girls’ Under-16 Indoor 800 metres, placing third in her heat and overall among 18 competitors, recording 2:26.05.
The 800 metres events continued to yield success for Pembroke Athleta, with Jack Herrera Rolè breaking his own record from last year to set a new Under-14 Indoor 800m National Best, finishing second overall in 2:20.62.
Another standout performance came from Kaine Micallef, who won both the Under-13 60m sprint in 8.28 seconds and the Long Jump with a leap of 4.20 metres.
Overall, the 2026 London Indoor Games proved to be another extremely fruitful international outing for Pembroke Athleta, with the majority of participants recording personal bests and season-best performances.
The club extended its thanks to SportMalta for their support, which made participation in the event possible.
Congratulations to all!
