Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced a boost in support for Maltaβs elite athletes, saying they should no longer have to use their personal leave to represent the country abroad.
Speaking at a Labour Party meeting in Santa Venera, Abela revealed that sports leave for elite athletes working in the private sector and forming part of national teams will increase to 10 days when competing in European or world championships.
The government-paid leave will also extend to members of the technical and medical teams accompanying the athletes.
