Maltese mountaineer Rita Saliba began an ambitious expedition on 16th May to climb Denali, the highest peak in Alaska.

Her plans were immediately affected by severe weather, leaving her team stranded in Talkeetna for five days before they were able to start the ascent.

The group eventually reached base camp on 22nd May and continued to Camp 1 later that same day. They progressed to Camp 2 last Sunday, where they were again delayed for several days due to harsh weather conditions.

This is not Saliba’s first climb as she reached Mount Aconcagua’s summit back in December and Mount Elbrus in 2024.

Today, Saliba and her team are attempting the next stage of the climb, aiming to move from Camp 2 to Camp 3. Saliba is using the expedition to raise funds for the Association for Abandoned Animals and Puttinu Cares.

If she successfully finishes this expedition, Saliba will be the first Maltese woman to make to the top of Mount Denali.

We’re routing for you Rita!
